AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) is set to establish a new joint venture in Thailand, with Tassapon Bijleveld, the CEO of sister company, Thai AirAsia (FD, Bangkok Don Mueang), and Julpas Kruesopon, an advisor to the Thai prime minister, a filing to the Malaysian stock exchange has revealed. Thai AirAsia X submitted an application for an Air Operator's License on June 20 and expects approval to be granted by the end of this month. Once in its possession, the company will then apply for an Air Operator Certificate enabling it to launch long-haul operations as Thai AirAsia X (XJ, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) in early 2014 with initial destinations expected to be in Japan and South Korea.
