Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) is set to follow Vueling Airlines (VY, Barcelona El Prat) in announcing plans to establish Rome Fiumicino as its next hub. Using six B737-800s based out of the Italian capital, the Irish LCC plans on launching 3 new Southern Italy domestic routes with multiple daily flights to Catania and Palermo International (in Sicily) and Lamezia Terme (in Calabria) commencing on December 18, 2013. Ryanair will also offer daily business flights to Brussels National and Barcelona El Prat. It plans to move its domestic flights from Rome Ciampino to Alghero, Bari, Brindisi, Cagliari, Comiso and Trapani from Ciampino to Fiumicino to make slots available at Ciampino for international expansion. Overall Ryanair expects to have 12 B737-800 aircraft based at Fiumicino by October 2014.
