Rex - Regional Express (ZL, Wagga Wagga) has expressed an interest in picking up several routes that were recently abandoned by Brindabella Airlines (Canberra) following its entry into receivership. The news comes after the Transport Minister for New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian, said her ministry had begun an expression of interest process after it revoked Brindabella's five exclusive air licences for regional passenger services to Cooma, Moree, Narrabri, Cobar and Mudgee. AustralianAviation says REX is seeking approvals from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to add those routes to its AOC. “We do not anticipate any difficulties obtaining CASA approvals, but given the time of year, we believe we should begin work sooner rather than later to be ready for the new tender for the licensed routes of Brindabella Airlines,” said REX's general manager of network strategy and sales, Warrick Lodge. Among the first routes to be added would be Moree and Narrabri with Newcastle Williamtown, Orange, NS, Cobar and Mudgee to follow later. Mr Lodge said talks would be held with affected local councils in order to draw up the requisite partnership arrangements.
