Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) and British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) have indefinitely suspended flights to Freetown, Sierra Leone, after an International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) spot check revealed the airport's only fire engine was inoperative.

"We are working very hard to fix the faulty gearbox system of the fire engine and to add to the fleet," general manager of the Sierra Leone Airports Authority, John Sesay, told Reuters news agency.

Both Kenya Airways and British Airways suspended flights on Saturday, March 8, following the report.
