American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has altered an order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for 260 Airbus A320-family planes placed in 2011. The deal had called for flexibility for the airline to take delivery of A319-100s, A320s and A321s, with 130 featuring Airbus’ New Engine Option (neo). In addition, given the size of the order, 50% of the aircraft were to have been sourced from lessors.

However, according to the European manufacturer's latest figures, it has now agreed to sell the US carrier A321s and A319ceos that would have been leased under the previous agreement.

"American Airlines’ acquisition involved 64 A321s in the CEO (current engine option) version, along with seven of the shorter-fuselage A319ceo version," Airbus said in a statement.

Overall, according to Reuters, American will in reality acquire more aircraft from Airbus though its firm order for 130 of the new "neo" jets now stands at 100.
