GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) has announced on February 27 that it will receive a BRL1 billion (USD251 million) cash injection from Smiles, the carrier's frequent flyer plan that is 54% owned by Gol itself. The injection will be in the form of a pre-payment for award tickets and Gol will pay Smiles interest for the pre-payment at 132% of Brazil's CDI overnight rate.
Overall Gol expects to cut the number of flights by 6% this year with flights to Miami International, Orlando International, Caracas Simón Bolivar, Aruba, Bauru Arealva, Altamira, BR and Imperatriz being cut from the carrier's network.
The international routes have already been cut and Gol will stop operating its weekdaily B737-700 service from São Paulo Guarulhos to Bauru on February 29. Altamira will continue to be served four times weekly with B737-700s from Belém International and Brasília Juscelino Kubitschek International until March 27 while a daily B737-800 service from Imperatriz to Brasilia and Sao Luis will be maintained until March 27 as well.
