WestJet (WS, Calgary) has confirmed its interest in a slightly stretched version of the B737 MAX 7. The Canadian carrier's Chief Financial Officer, Harry Taylor, told Reuters in an interview this week that should the stretched MAX 7 prove a better match for its requirements, then it would "take advantage of it for sure."

Though Boeing (BOE, Washington National) has yet to comment on any plans to build the aircraft, reports indicate the B737 MAX 7X could seat up to 150 passengers - 24 more than the standard MAX 7 variant in a two class layout - and would act as a replacement for the B737-700 of which WestJet operates fifty-seven.

WestJet is still working with the US manufacturer on the configuration of its existing MAX jet order. The carrier will add the first of its forty B737 MAX 8s next year with the first of its B737 MAX 7s due from 2019. The entire order is scheduled to be fulfilled by 2027.
