Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) says it has reached an agreement with Emirates (EK, Dubai International) and engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce to delay the delivery of a total of twelve A380-800s due over the next two years.

According to Reuters, the European manufacturer said six aircraft due in 2017 had been delayed to 2018 while six due in 2018 had been delayed to 2019.

"Further fixed cost reduction initiatives will be accelerated so the impact on break-even in 2017 is minimal," Airbus said in a statement.

The Dubai-based carrier has a total of fifty Rolls-Royce-powered A380-800s on order from Airbus, the first of which was due to have arrived in the Gulf earlier this month. However, that date has since been pushed back given the 900's performance issues when operating in the region's extreme temperatures and dust-laden environment.
