LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) will take over from SprintAir (P8, Warsaw Chopin) to connect Zielona Góra to Warsaw Chopin, reports Portal Samorządowy. The flag carrier will offer 6x weekly flights using DHC-8-400 equipment, starting in March. LOT will take over from the small carrier after winning a tender for PLN12.1 million (USD3 million), beating out SprintAir's PLN13.7 million (USD3.4 million) bid.

Zielona Gora is a wine-producing region located in the west of Poland, 60 kilometres from the German border. It has been connected to the capital on 5x weekly flights operated by SprintAir using a Saab 340A aircraft.

The airport is Poland's smallest with scheduled service and features one 2,500 metre runway 06/24. It has recently been equipped with an ILS CAT I after a PLN17 million (USD4.2 million) infrastructural overhaul.

Marshal of the province, Elżbieta Anna Polak, also confirmed that the airport is conducting a feasibility study on opening up to international operations, after which a tender will be launched. The provincial government has set aside a total of PLN7 million (USD1.7 million) to the development of international connections.
