Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg) is planning to base a B747-400F freighter at Milan Malpensa to start long-haul cargo operations making use of the void left by Alitalia (AZ/Rome Fiumicino), Cargoitalia and Ocean Airlines that have all suspended cargo operations in Italy last year. It has already applied for an Italian air operator certificate to allow it to create an Italian subsidiary to operate the aircraft at a later stage.
