Malev (Budapest) has launched daily Dash 8-400 service from Budapest to Belgrade on December 14. It has however already suspended its Budapest-Iasi and Budapest-Timisoara routes. The Hungarian government is considering taking a majority stake in Malev again to assist in the restructuring efforts at the carrier that is currently owned by Russian bank VEB. Malev has decided to park up to ten aircraft for the winter season and to lay off 1500 staff (30% of its workforce) and has announced plans to increase its focus on routes to Eastern Europe in the future.
