Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) has entered into a joint venture with sister carrier Austrian Airlines (OS/Vienna) that will manage sales in Austria and the management of the Austrian cargo capacity. Lufthansa Cargo owns 76% of the new company with Austrian controlling the remaining 24%. Lufthansa Cargo had already announced that it would cut 450 staff positions itself and it is expected that another 50 jobs at Austrian cargo will be cut as a result of the plan. Lufthansa Cargo will take over cargo sales in all other markets. It is planning to operate 18 MD-11F freighters again by the end of the year when its last remaining two aircraft are scheduled to be reactivated.
