LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) will temporarily wet-lease a B767-300ER from Air Italy (I9/Milan Malpensa) this summer season for some additional Poland-US services. Warsaw airport’s main runway will be closed on September 4, 5, 11 and 18 because of runway repair works. LOT will operate a limited schedule during these days and divert flights to other airports in Poland. Limited operations in Warsaw are possible with ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-200 turboprops operated by its EuroLOT (K2/Warsaw) subsidiaries. LOT has converted an outstanding order for four EMB-175s into an order for four larger EMB-195s. It has launched several new routes: Warsaw-Damascus: 3x weekly EMB-175 service starting on November 2 Warsaw-Hanoi: 3x weekly B767-300ER service starting on November 13 Warsaw-Kaliningrad: 6x weekly EMB-170/ERJ-145 service has resumed on June 18 Warsaw-Tbilisi: 3x weekly EMB-175 service starting on October 2 Warsaw-Yerevan: 2x weekly B737-500 service has started on July 1 LOT has however given up plans for a new Warsaw-Gothenburg Landvetter route and will terminate its services from Krakow to New York JFK on September 18 and to Athens, Chicago O’Hare and Rome Fiumicino on October 29. Star Alliance partner Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Ataturk) is reportedly interested in taking a stake in LOT that is currently going through another restructuring plan that will include another 400 staff being made redundant. In other news, LOT has dry leased two of its B737-500s to Rwandair (WB/Kigali).
