Frontier Airlines (F9, Denver International) has opened a crew base at Phoenix Sky Harbor which will employ up to 180 pilots and 275 cabin attendants in its first year of operations. At the same time, the ultra-low-cost carrier also launched six new non-stop routes from the airport. Measured by weekly seat numbers, Frontier Airlines is the airport's fifth biggest airline and Phoenix Sky Harbor is the airline's sixth largest port.
"Opening this new crew base is a clear indication of our commitment to continued growth in Phoenix,” said Frontier SVP Jake Filene. He says the airline's new base will contribute around USD118 million annually to the local economy via wages paid to crew living in the city.
Coinciding with the crew base opening, Frontier Airlines commenced nonstop flights to Philadelphia International, Fort Lauderdale International, Cincinnati International, Detroit Metropolitan, Santa Ana, CA, and Portland International in early November. It takes the total number of destinations that Frontier flies to from Phoenix Sky Harbor to 23.
According to the ch-aviation capacities module, Frontier is presently offering 264 flights in and out of Phoenix Sky Harbor per week. The airline's fleet of Airbus narrowbodies that service the airport provide 48,924 seats a week.
