Startup BermudAir (2T, Bermuda) has abandoned plans to be a business-class-only carrier after only six weeks of operation between Bermuda and the United States.
The airline will now offer dual-class seating on all its flights, describing this as a "strategic shift "in response to preliminary consumer feedback and "evolving market dynamics". Economy-class seating will be added to flights beginning 4Q23.
"After nearly 170 successful flights, it's clear that there is strong demand for direct, short-haul, and premium flights between Bermuda and the [US] East Coast," founder and Chief Executive Officer Adam Scott said in a statement. "We've had overwhelmingly positive feedback from our guests about their experience onboard BermudAir, but guests also desire more options and flexibility."
The airline began operating on September 1, 2023, from Bermuda L.F. Wade International Airport to Boston, followed by services to Fort Lauderdale International and White Plains with two E175STDs leased from Azorra Aviation. It initially intended to reconfigure the cabins with what it termed "aisle class" - a business class configuration where every seat would have an aisle and window access.
