Oman Air (WY, Muscat) will become the first carrier in the Gulf region to fly the Boeing B737-900(ER) following the recent placement of an order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for five of the type. The announcement was made by airline CEO Wayne Pearce on the sidelines of the 2013 IATA AGM currently in full swing in the South African city of Cape Town. Oman Air currently operates two B737-700s and fifteen B737-800s on flights to the Indian sub-continent, the Middle East and East Africa.
