AirAsia Philippines (Manila Ninoy Aquino International) is planning to outright acquire Zest Airways Inc., now trading as AirAsia Zest (Manila Ninoy Aquino International). The AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) subsidiary acquired a 49% stake in Zest in March 2013 but has now filed papers with the Filipino Civil Aeronautics Board to acquire the remaining 51%, held by Alfredo Yao. The PhilippineFlightNetwork says Marianne Hontiveros, CEO of Philippines AirAsia, has confirmed the pending transaction but did not provide any further details. Forty percent of Philippines AirAsia is held by Malaysia-based AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) while the remaining sixty percent is held by Hontiveros, Michael Cojuangco, Antonio Romero and Yao. On the back of an aggressive expansion plan, which among other developments will see Japan being added to its network, Philippines AirAsia will add two more A320-200s to its fleet in February and March.
