Seychelles Airlines (Mahé) parent, Intershore Aviation Ltd, has reportedly acquiesced to demands by the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) that it change the airline's name.

According to the archipelago's terms of incorporation, one may use only the word “Seychelles” in the name of a company with approval from the Seychelles Registrar of Companies as under local law, only government-associated entities are allowed to include the country's name in their names.

However, despite initially securing the official go-ahead, Intershore Aviation last year filed a court case against the Registrar's office after the latter rescinded its original decision allowing the firm to use and register the name "Seychelles Airlines."

In the wake of the case, the SCAA suspended Intershore's application for an AOC until the proceedings were resolved.

As such, it is hoped the change in name will allow the project to move forward though until it is able to resume certification, suspended in September last year, and secure its Air Services Licence (ASL) from the Seychelles Ministry of Home Affairs and Transport and Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the SCAA, Intershore will have to use its own name when referring to its future airline operations.

Intershore Aviation Ltd, the Seychellois division of an international firm involved in financial services and real estate, plans to operate a pair of B767-300(ER)s on direct flights to Western Europe, Russia and Asia once operational.
