BackBone Aviation (Esbjerg) founder and owner Bjarne Lastein says the Danish operator is in the process of repositioning itself in the aviation market following a boardroom reshuffle.

Founded in 2011, BackBone Aviation has focused on the business charter and flight school niche using Bombardier Aerospace Regional Jets, Cessna Aircraft Company Executive Jets, and even Robinson 22, 44 and EC120 helicopters.

However, according to a statement issued last week, Lastein said Backbone Aviation would now focus on providing charter capacity to tour operators as well as virtual carriers and established airlines. A new cargo division is also on the cards.

"We are now in talks with many clients, both existing and new, in order to secure the best all around solution for them in terms of both aircraft size and operation," he said. "We had a very busy summer, with operations on our CRJ200s and Cessna 525 Citation executive Jet, in addition to establishing new markets for aircraft charter and helicopter operations."

Aside from in-house third-party operations, Lastein said the carrier would also offer aircraft owners and leasing agencies the ability to place their aircraft on BackBone's AOC. This, he said, would be done in partnership with international aircraft management firms.
