Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) has announced it will open a base at Athens Airport, Greece, from April 2018. The airline will base one aircraft out of the Greek capital gateway thus creating approximately thirty direct new jobs in the capital.
Lázaro Ros, Volotea’s Director General and Co-founder, said in a statement the Spanish budget carrier would add two new destinations to its Athens network as a result of the move. Service to Verona will start on May 31, 2018 and flights to Irakleion (year round) will begin on April 26, 2018. A further two destinations will be unveiled during the summer 2018 season.
Volotea's existing Athens network entails Venice Marco Polo, Bari, Genoa and Palermo International and two Greek islands, Thira Santorini and Mykonos. As of 2018, it will fly to eight destinations from Athens.
