American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) will retire its last McDonnell Douglas twinjets on September 3 and 4, with the last flight of the type scheduled to depart from Dallas/Fort Worth on September 4 at 0900L and arrive at Chicago O'Hare the same day at 1135L.

According to a press release, nineteen MD-80s will operate their last revenue flights into Dallas/Fort Worth. One unit will retire at Chicago O'Hare following the last flight of the type, while two others are scheduled to end their revenue service at each of Tulsa International and St. Louis Lambert International.

American Airlines said that the aircraft will then be ferried to Roswell.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, the carrier currently operates one MD-82 and twenty-seven MD-83s all of which average 20.8 years of age. Some aircraft are scheduled to leave the fleet before the type's phase-out in early September.
