Air New Zealand (NZ, Auckland International) has firmed up an order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for eight B787-10s that was first announced in May this year.

At the time, the carrier said its commitment included options for an additional twelve aircraft of the type, albeit with substitution rights for the smaller B787-9.

According to a stock exchange filing, the first of the firm B787-10s will be powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines and will deliver from September 2022 through 2027.

Air New Zealand will use the incoming B787s to replace its existing fleet of nine B777-200(ER)s which will be phased out by 2025. It also operates eight B777-300(ER)s and thirteen B787-9s.
