Japan Air Commuter (JC, Kagoshima) will cease operating under its own "JC" carrier code from October 25 when it will only use that of its parent JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda).

The regional specialist currently operates seven ATR42-600 and two ATR72-600s on an entirely domestic network in southern Japan, centred on the carrier's main base at Kagoshima airport. Despite being majority-owned by JAL, Japan Air Commuter currently flies exclusively under its own code.

While JAL holds a 60% stake in Japan Air Commuter, the remainder of the shares are owned by regional governments in areas served by the airline.

JAL does not operate its own regional aircraft, outsourcing this service to subsidiaries instead. Besides Japan Air Commuter, the list of partners includes HAC - Hokkaido Air System (NTH, Hakodate) (one ATR42-600 and three Saab 340B(Plus)) and J-Air (Nagoya Komaki) (eighteen E170s and fourteen E190s). Both HAC and J-Air operate all flights under the code of JAL.
