interCaribbean Airways (JY, Providenciales) and Air Antilles (Pointe à Pitre) have announced plans to ramp up their operations to Bridgetown starting in early August 2020, stepping into the market void left by LIAT (Antigua and Barbuda) (Antigua), ch-aviation schedule analysis has revealed.
interCaribbean Airways plans to operate to Barbados from St. Lucia Vigie (2x daily starting on August 4), Grenada (2x daily from August 4), and Dominica Melville Hall (2x daily from August 11). All routes will be served by E120 turboprops.
In turn, Air Antilles plans to fly to the easternmost island in the Caribbean from St. Lucia daily from August 1, 2020. The route will be extended to Dominica Douglas-Charles starting on August 8, when Dominica is scheduled to reopen its borders. The airline will use ATR42 turboprops to run these services.
Earlier in July, One Caribbean (St. Vincent Argyle International) said it would establish a base at Bridgetown airport. Barbados has relatively lax border restrictions, including a lack of entry restrictions for US travellers.
LIAT, which had an over 50% market share by capacity at Bridgetown airport, is currently in administration. Shareholders are due to vote on the carrier's liquidation on July 31.
