Condor (DE, Frankfurt International) has announced it will resume operating out of Vienna, Austria, in the summer of 2022 with non-stop flights to four holiday destinations in Spain and Greece.

From April 8 until October 28, 2022, the German leisure carrier will fly 4x weekly between Vienna and Palma de Mallorca (Spain).

From May, it will serve the following Greek islands:

The airline, in a statement, said its return to the Austrian capital is in response to demand from Austrian tour operators and travel retailers for tailor-made flights. “The pent-up demand for vacation trips will be huge in the coming summer. With our flights from Vienna, we are responding to the demand for tailor-made flights from our long-term tour operator and travel agency partners in Austria," said Chief Executive Officer Ralf Teckentrup.

“Together with our partners in Switzerland, we successfully established Zurich as a departure airport this summer. We look forward to adding Vienna to our flights from Germany and Switzerland in the summer of 2022," he said.

Condor will be entering a market dominated by Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) and budget carrier Ryanair (FR, Dublin International), which together control almost 65% of the market in Vienna in terms of weekly seat capacity, according to ch-aviation capacities data. Both carriers also compete on the routes to Spanish and Greek sun destinations that Condor is entering from Vienna, with Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) competing between Vienna and Mallorca, the ch-aviation schedules module shows.
