Atlas Air (5Y, New York JFK) says it has reached an agreement with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) in which it will acquire a B747-8F from the US manufacturer with delivery scheduled for November 2015. Once delivered, Atlas intends to charter out the freighter prior to its expected placement in longer-term ACMI service.

With the arrival, the freight specialist will operate a total of ten B747-8(F)s of which six are currently in service with its Polar Air Cargo (PO, New York JFK) subsidiary. Atlas also operates twenty-two B747-400Fs and, to cope with additional charter demand, will induct a twenty-third - N429MC (msn 24833) - back into commercial service before month-end.

Other freight aircraft that feature in Atlas' fleet include nine B767-200(F)s, one B757-200PF, and two B767-300Fs all of which are in service for DHL Express.
