Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) has announced it will suspend its daily Abu Dhabi International-Dallas/Fort Worth service with effect from March 25, 2018. In a statement, Etihad said the service had become commercially unsustainable following an American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) decision earlier this year to terminate a codeshare agreement with the Abu Dhabi-based carrier.

“The unfortunate decision by American Airlines to terminate a commercial relationship that benefited both carriers has left Etihad with no choice but to suspend flights between our Abu Dhabi home and Dallas/Fort Worth,” Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways' chief executive, said. "We are open to American Airlines reversing its decision to cancel our codeshare agreement so that Etihad Airways can continue the route and together protect and support American national interests and global connectivity while driving commercial value for both airlines."

In July this year, American Airlines said its codeshare agreements with each of Etihad and Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) would be terminated from March 24, 2018, onwards. At the time, it said it had based its decision on its ongoing dispute with the Middle Eastern carriers regarding their alleged access to state-backed subsidies which, it claimed, had distorted the US-global market.
