LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) has announced it will resume transatlantic services from Rzeszow Jasionka following a ten-year hiatus.

LOT said in a statement it will launch weekly, year-round flights from the south-eastern Polish city to New York Newark from April 29, 2018. It will be the sole long-haul service from this airport. The carrier hopes to serve the significant Polish diaspora in the United States, many of whom are originally from the region of Rzeszow. All flights will be operated with B787-8 equipment.

The Polish flag carrier operated an alternating seasonal service to New York JFK/Newark until 2009 when the route was terminated due to low profitability.

Rzeszow will be the fourth airport out of which LOT plans to operate long-haul services. Apart from Warsaw Chopin, its main hub, the airline has been running flights to Chicago O'Hare from Kraków John Paul II International since July 2017. In May 2018, it plans to launch routes to New York JFK and Chicago O'Hare from Budapest.

Currently, the Polish carrier operates a long-haul fleet of eight B787-8s but is scheduled to take delivery of three larger B787-9s in 2018.
