Swoop (Hamilton, ON) has announced it will open a base at Edmonton International Airport with effect from October of this year.
The WestJet budget carrier said in a statement it would deploy two B737-800s to Edmonton thus creating 90 jobs. It did not disclose its intentions for the airfield which it currently connects with Abbotsford and Hamilton, ON.
In terms of existing LCC operators, Swoop will compete with another LCC, Flair Airlines (F8, Kelowna), which recently chose Edmonton to be its key main transfer hub and operational headquarters.
