Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has announced it will open a new base in Kraków John Paul II International in Poland on May 1, 2019. The Hungarian LCC plans to base two A321-200s out of the airport during the Summer 2019 season.

Prior to the opening of the base, on April 4, 2018, Wizz Air will launch services from Kraków to Kyiv Igor Sikorsky (4x weekly) and London Luton (14x weekly).

After the opening of the base, Wizz Air will launch flights from Kraków to:

Kraków will be Wizz Air's fifth base in Poland after Warsaw Chopin, Katowice Pyrzowice, Gdansk, Wroclaw, and Poznan Lawica, although the last one is due to close in March 2019, just prior to the opening of the Kraków base.

Currently, Wizz Air does not serve Kraków, the second-largest airport in Poland. Rival LCC Ryanair is the largest carrier there with 186 weekly departures and 46% market share by capacity.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Wizz Air currently operates seventy-one A320-200s and thirty-four A321-200s. Four units of each of the types are operated by Wizz Air UK (W9, London Luton). The carrier also has a further eight A321-200s, seventy-two A320neo, and 184 A321neo on order with Airbus.
