Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) wants to double its fleet to 500 aircraft to "stay relevant", chief executive József Váradi said. "We have another 300 aircraft to be taken delivery, [...] looking ahead for the next 10 years or so, we need to be a 500-aircraft airline," he added. The low-cost carrier, which also operates through its Wizz Air Malta and Wizz Air UK certificates, has just taken delivery of its 250th Airbus narrowbody aircraft. Its current order book comprises 231 A321-200NX and forty-two A321-200NY(XLR)s, although it recently agreed to convert thirty-six XLRs into standard-range variants.
