A Northern European investment fund Triton is eyeing taking over the Nordic units from cash-strapped Thomas Cook Group, Sky News has reported.

The talks between the parties are understood to be at an early stage.

Triton is considering buying the Danish, Swedish, Finnish, and Norwegian tour operator businesses, which collectively employ about a fifth of Thomas Cook's workforce. It is unclear if the bid would also concern the group's local airline, TUI fly Nordic (6B, Stockholm Arlanda).

Last year, Triton bought Swedo-Dutch online-only tour operator Sunweb.

Thomas Cook has been trying to offload its airline businesses since February 2019 in a bid to improve the group's liquidity. Lufthansa is reportedly interested in the German group airline Condor (DE, Frankfurt International). Virgin Atlantic and Indigo Partners have also been reported as potential investors.
