Cebu Pacific Air (5J, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) , Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila Ninoy Aquino International), Zest Air (Manila Ninoy Aquino International) and PAL Express (2P, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) will all switch operations from Cagayan de Oro Laguindingan to the new new USD190million Laguindingan International Airport on June 15, despite their objections. The move had originally been scheduled for April 30, but was postponed to June at the behest of the airlines who did not want to make the transfer during their peak tourist season. In addition, concerns had also been raised over the readiness of the new airport's facilities but according to the Philippines' Department of Transportation & Communications, the consensus among regulators, airlines, and aviation experts is that even with the use of VFR alone, Laguindingan Airport is already a safer airport than Cagayan de Oro.
