Talofa Airways (Apia Faleolo) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) oppose an upcoming passenger fee increase at Apia Faleolo, where the Samoa Airport Authority will implement a NZD47 New Zealand dollars (USD28) departure tax hike, and a new NZD58 (USD35) aerodrome facility levy, on March 1, 2026. The rollout was delayed from February 16, 2026, after industry intervention. The fees are intended to recover airport infrastructure development costs. Talofa Airways director Jeffrey Hunter stated the authority consulted airlines but "made up their mind" regardless of the potential impact on operators. IATA warned the charges add to the travel cost burden for tourists and citizens and urged the government to reconsider.
