Astar Air Cargo (Cincinnati International) has lost its biggest customer DHL with almost no advance notice last week. It has now retired all of its remaining 8 DC-8-73F freighters and will have to lay off up to 200 of its staff. Astar however plans to continue operating at least one of its aircraft on a contract for the US government. DHL will replace some of the flying done by Astar on its behalf with a new agreement with Atlas Air (5Y, New York JFK) that will operate five B767-200(F) aircraft on its behalf. ABX Air (GB, Wilmington Air Park) also now operates an additional B767-200(F) and an additional B767-300F on behalf of DHL. Atlas Air (5Y, New York JFK) now operates nine B747-400F freighters on behalf of DHL.
