Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has announced Skopje as its 17th base in Eastern Europe. It will base an A320-200 at the airport from October 28 and operate routes to Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg, CH, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Malmö, Milan Bergamo and Memmingen, each served between two and three times a week. Wizz has won a tender put forward by the Macedonian government to find a carrier willing to base aircraft at the airport in return for three years of subsidies. Wizz Air already serves London Luton and Venice Treviso from Skopje. In unrelated news, Wizz Air is the first carrier that has confirmed planned operations from Lublin airport in Poland that is going to be officially opened later this year. It plans to serve London Luton twice weekly from December 18 using its A320-200 fleet.
