ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) has extended the long-haul operational schedule of its A330-200s to the end of December 2025 on certain routes, pending their planned retirement in favour of the newer A330-900Ns and A350-900s, the airline's published schedules reveal.

The A330-200, originally scheduled to operate until October 31, will now serve select routes to/from Rome Fiumicino until December 29, 30, or 31, according to the airline's online booking system:

  • Boston: scheduled until December 31, to be replaced by an A330-900N from January 2026;
  • Delhi International: scheduled until December 30, switching to an A330-900N from December 31;
  • New York JFK: scheduled until December 30, introducing an A350-900 on December 31; and
  • Rio de Janeiro International: departs on November 17, 24, and 29; the route is also operated with an A330-900N.

The airline inherited the A330-200s from Alitalia and has been gradually phasing them out while introducing newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft, in line with its fleet renewal strategy and sustainability goals.

According to ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data data, ITA Airways' fleet still includes five A330-200s with an average age of 13.7 years on operating leases from Deucalion Aviation, Global Principal Finance, and Elevate Capital Partners. They are currently deployed on routes to the US (Boston, Chicago O'Hare, Miami International, New York JFK, and Washington Dulles), Canada (Toronto Pearson), India (Delhi), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo Guarulhos).

The airline already operates eleven A330-900Ns (of which it owns four and leases the others from Deucalion Aviation and Air Lease Corporation), with six more to be delivered. It has six A350-900s in service (leased from Macquarie AirFinance and Griffin Global Asset Management, respectively), with two more on order.
