Fastjet (Dar es Salaam) has announced that it has reached a provisional agreement with the owners of 1time airline (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) to acquire 100% of the bankrupt low-cost carrier for the symbolic price of 1 South African Rand. It plans to resume operations in early 2013 with three MD-80s from 1time’s fleet that will then eventually be replaced by newer A319-100s. Fastjet has just recently launched operations in Tanzania with a fleet of three A319-100s and aims to establish a pan-African low-cost carrier. It plans to initially operate from Johannesburg to Cape Town International, Dar es Salaam, East London and Port Elizabeth with its new South African subsidiary.
