EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) says it is on track to receive its first B737-8s in January 2026 following a commitment from Boeing that it will stick to the agreed aircraft delivery timeline.
The announcement comes after EgyptAir Holding chairman Ahmed Adel held talks with Anbessie Yitbarek, the manufacturer's vice president of commercial sales and marketing for Africa, over the supply of the new jets.
According to an August 5 press release published on the government's State Information Service (SIS), the airline is working "closely" with Boeing and "tracking every stage of the manufacturing process to ensure deadlines are met".
Yitbarek, in turn, emphasised the manufacturer's support for the new aircraft including spare parts, as well as pilot instruction and technical training programmes in tandem with EgyptAir’s academy.
The airline signed a lease agreement with Air Lease Corporation in 2023 for the eighteen B737 MAX, with deliveries originally slated to begin in 2025. The new jets will partly replace twelve A220-100s which the carrier sold to Azorra in 2024.
EgyptAir also previously told ch-aviation it planned to issue a lease tender in the first quarter of 2025 for 20 more narrowbodies and widebodies as part of a five-year plan to expand its fleet to 125 aircraft by 2030.
The airline's in-house fleet comprises eight A320-200Ns, seven A321-200NX, five A330-200s, four A330-300s, thirty B737-800s, one B737-800(SF), five B777-300ERs, and eight B787-9s. A further three A330-200(P2F)s are wet leased.
Along with the B737-8s, it also has a firm order for sixteen A350-900s. Deliveries of the first Airbus widebodies are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.
