Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International) will change its IATA code from DJ to VA from January 14 onwards and will then use the same VA carrier code for all services operated by Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International), Virgin Australia (NZ) (Christchurch), Virgin Australia International (VA, Brisbane International) and Virgin Samoa (Apia Faleolo). Virgin Australia International flights have already been operating under the VA code since the long-haul carrier initially launched as V Australia Airlines (Brisbane International) back in 2009. As of January 14, all carriers will use a joint reservation and departure control system provided by Sabre replacing Amadeus previously used for the long-haul operation and Navitaire for the short-haul operation. The deployment of two different IT systems had made an earlier change to one code technically impossible.
