EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) is offering maintenance, training, and aviation infrastructure support to Equatorial Guinea as the Egyptian state-owned carrier looks to expand its footprint across Africa, The Egyptian Gazette reports.
A high-level delegation from EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering visited Malabo recently following an invitation from Equatorial Guinea’s minister of civil aviation and infrastructure to explore cooperation across several civil aviation segments. Discussions centred on aircraft maintenance, workforce development, and the management of aviation infrastructure.
EgyptAir chairman and CEO Ahmed Adel said the visit formed part of the airline’s broader African expansion strategy, leveraging EgyptAir’s technical expertise and long-standing aviation experience. He said the group aims to establish logistical and technical hubs to support the modernisation of Equatorial Guinea’s aviation sector and to strengthen connectivity between Cairo and Central and West Africa.
EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering chairman Ibrahim Fathi elaborated that the Equatorial Guinean authorities are interested in adopting Egyptian standards for hangar management and human resource development. He said the two sides would draft Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and a detailed action plan covering the management of aircraft maintenance facilities, including widebody-capable hangars at Mongomo. The airport serves the country’s new administrative capital, Ciudad de la Paz (formerly Djibloho or Oyala), which President Teodoro Obiang designated as the capital in January 2026, replacing Malabo.
The discussions also covered the provision of technical training support for the national carrier, CEIBA Intercontinental (C2, Malabo) and the presidential fleet, plus a proposal to launch a direct route between Cairo International and Malabo. The visit concluded with an inspection of aviation facilities capable of handling widebody aircraft.
According to ADS-B data, CEIBA Intercontinental had one aircraft in active service last month. B777-200LR 3C-NOM (msn 40668) flew from Malabo to Bodrum Milas in Türkiye, where it has been parked since January 30, 2026.
The airline's ATR72-500, 3C-LLM (msn 810), ATR42-320(F), 3C-LLG (msn 335), and single B767-300ER, 3C-MAG (msn 30393), are not tracked on ADS-B data.
