Myanmar's ministry of transport and communications has announced that local carriers MAI - Myanmar Airways International, Myanmar National Airlines, Air Thanlwin, Mann Yadanarpon Airlines, and Mingalar resumed full domestic operations on March 25, 2026, following a four-day suspension caused by the shortage of aviation fuel.

The airlines had halted domestic ticket sales and suspended the majority of local routes to ration critically low aviation fuel supplies caused by global supply shocks linked to the heightened regional situation in the Middle East.

Following state intervention to procure and allocate emergency fuel for commercial use, the transport ministry confirmed the resumption of regular flight schedules. The government has mandated that airlines give operational priority to destinations that are difficult to access by road, specifically:

As part of fuel-saving measures, Myanmar Airlines International and Myanmar National Airlines have announced a temporary limitation on baggage allowances for international flights in all classes. These adjustments have since been lifted as of March 26.

In general, airlines across the Asia-Pacific have introduced operational changes in an attempt of weathering the fuel crisis. Most carriers have added fuel surcharges on top of base ticket rates to cushion losses, while some have even suspended routes.
