The prime minister of Latvia, Evika Silina, said she was willing to sacrifice her coalition to ensure support for a EUR30 million euro (USD35.4 million) short-term loan to airBaltic (BT, Riga). This comes after key coalition partner the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) reportedly demanded the ousting of the transport minister, Atis Švinka, as a condition for supporting the loan. Švinka represents the Progressives party, a coalition junior partner, without whom Silina's New Unity (JV) and the ZZS would no longer have a majority in parliament. The government approved the loan on March 31, but the parliament has deferred the vote confirming the financing.
