ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) and Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) signed a codeshare agreement on April 15, 2026, focused on building connectivity via Rome Fiumicino. The Italian gateway is ITA's main hub, while Volotea connects it with six international destinations in France and Spain. The two airlines began partnering through an interline agreement in 2025, and first proposed a much closer cooperation as a part of their ultimately failed bid for two Sardinian PSO routes. Under that framework, Volotea would fly from Cagliari to Rome Fiumicino and from Olbia to Milan Linate, tapping into ITA's onward network. The routes were awarded to AeroItalia.
