BoraJet Airlines (Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen) has been forced to indefinitely postpone its planned Van to Yerevan flights just days before their launch on 3 April. The twice weekly flights were to have been the first ever between Turkey and Armenia by a Turkish operator (Armavia (Yerevan) used to operate between the two countries prior to its bankruptcy filing), whose diplomatic relations have been strained by a number of historical and political issues. Reports suggest that the Turkish civil aviation authority ordered the flights suspended, likely under pressure from Azerbaijan, with whom Armenia is locked in a bitter dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh - a mountainous enclave within Azerbaijan with a majority Armenian population.
