LAN Argentina (Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) has announced it is to cease domestic Argentinian operations after the Argentine airports authority (Organismo Regulador del Sistema Nacional de Aeropuertos - ORSNA) officially gave it 10 days to vacate a hangar it occupies at Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery. The Director of Corporate Affairs at LAN Argentina, Mr Agustin Agraz, said however, that the company will assert its rights in court stating "We have a contract signed for the hangar and our maintenance base until 2023 with an investment of USD5,000,000 and USD20,000 in monthly fees (...) We have a contract signed for the hangar until 2023." However, Mr Mariano Recalde, the president of Aerolineas Argentinas, said that the conflict with LAN “has to do with other things and the hangar is being used as an excuse”. LAN Argentina competes on domestic routes in Argentina against the state-owned carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery). With 10 A320s based out of the airport, LAN said it would not be able to continue operating without the use of its hangar.
