Safair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has been granted approval by the South African Air Service Licensing Council to launch their own Low Cost Carrier, FlySafair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo). The nascent domestic scheduled operator is set to begin 10x daily Cape Town International to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo flights by the last quarter of this year using two ex-Nok Air (DD, Bangkok Don Mueang) B737-400s (msns 24917 and 26065). The airline would be the third such operator to eye a piece of the South African domestic market pie along with fellow startups, Fastjet (Dar es Salaam) and SkyWise (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo). Historically, Safair has focussed on the ACMI and MRO markets.
