Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) founder, Richard Branson, says the airline will likely join the Skyteam alliance though nothing definitive has yet been agreed to. Speaking in Amsterdam during the recent Postcode Lottery Green Challenge, Mr Branson said a tie up with Air France-KLM (Air France (AF, Paris CDG), along with Virgin's 49% shareholder, Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson), were founding members of SkyTeam in 2000) "would make sense" adding that talks would likely be held at some point in the future. A Virgin entry into the alliance would also bolster SkyTeam's presence at the crucial European hub of London Heathrow, where Virgin is currently the second most prominent carrier after Oneworld's British Airways (BA, London Heathrow), and leveraging their partnership with Virgin and Delta, Air France-KLM could offer more frequencies between Europe and the United States via London.
