Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) will finalise plans to acquire "between 200 and 250" new aircraft by year-end and seek board approval next year, chief executive Emirsyah Satar has told Reuters news agency. A further, undisclosed number of aircraft will be leased thereby "reducing pressure on its balance sheet." The Indonesian national airline says it will use a portion of the new arrivals to bolster the fleet of its LCC subsidiary, Citilink (QG, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta). With an additional sixty-three new jets and turboprops made up of A330-200s, A330-300s, B737-800s, B777-300ERs, CRJ1000ERs and ATR72-600s due by 2015, Garuda's fleet will constitute 194 aircraft in total with Citilink operating twenty-four A320-200s. With air travel fast becoming the preferred means of travel domestically, carriers have invested heavily in new, more fuel efficient fleets with Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) in the forefront with over 500 Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and Boeing (BOE, Washington National) machines on order.
