Kuwait Airways (KU, Kuwait) will move ahead with its original plans to acquire twenty-five Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) machines as part of its fleet renewal programme. Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, chairman Sami Al-Nisf confirmed his airline will acquire ten A350-900s, with options for five A350-1000s, and fifteen A320neo with options for either five A320neos or five A321neos. Delivery is scheduled for between 2018 and 2020. In the interim, the Kuwaiti national carrier will lease fifteen A320-200s and acquire five used A330-200s from India's Jet Airways (Mumbai International). According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Mr Al-Nisf indicated that part of the KWD442million (USD1.56billion) fund that was originally set up to cover KAC's losses would be used for the aircraft procurement. Following the announcements, Kuwait's Minister of Communications Essa Al-Kandari announced the immediate suspension of Al-Nisf because of the carrier's decision to work out the dry-lease deal with Jet Airways given the government's disagreement to lease used aircraft.
